Most of the radio talking I have done has been on 160/80 meters.  I am just recently beginning to realize the possibilities of the 40 meter band in the daytime.

I have had a fascination with Aladdin mantel lamps since I was a young boy. I can remember the “coal oil” Aladdin standing by in case of a power outage in our rural home in southern Indiana in the mid 1950’s. My parents grew up without electricity and this was their only form of light a night, winter time the nights were long and the added feature of putting out around 5000 BTU was a welcome asset. This lamp was only made one year, 1930/31 and it is completely original, including the Aladdin Whip-O-Lite shade.  This would have been a more costly lamp and having one would have been a envy, remember the depression in going on, kerosone is 3 cents a gallon but most rural folks can't afford it.   It is a completely natural draft kerosene lamp and is equal to a 65 watt bulb. Look closely you will see a second sought after Aladdin in the background, orange Aladdin vase lamp also original. I like to burn these on a cold winter night also with the fire place. What a great time!  Drop me a line if you have in interest in this, I do belong to Knights of Aladdin. I hope you can enjoy this as much as I do.

I had a chance to make a trip to Dayton this year, had a great time. Went Friday May 15th and was escorted by Joe KB8QID and Loren W5HIO. Joe is in the front (right), Loren in rear (left). I generally get a chance to talk with these two a few times a week, +/-  7.213 day or 3.806 evening. We always have a great time and Friday was certainly no exception. Two of the finest amateurs I have run across!! Stop in and join in sometime!!

Living in a rural area we have many alarm systems, most are VERY loud, some are manual, some are not. This is one of the door sensors

History of eSSB

Amateur eSSB Radio

We had this home built to our liking 20 years ago. It is located in the center of 15 ac of mature forest.  My antennas are running thru the trees giving me many options.  Since we are rural the receiver noise level has always been a NON factor here, S 2/3.
